If you rushed to download iOS 27 when Apple dropped the update on Monday, you may have been surprised to see the key new feature wasn’t there waiting for you.

Apple has spend months – no, years – preparing us for the arrival of Siri AI with its personal context from third-party apps, on-screen awareness, and more. So you can understand why so many people downloaded iOS 27 with a “show me the money” attitude.

Unfortunately there is a waitlist for Siri AI that you’ll need to join in order to take the new Google Gemini-assisted AI features for a test drive on iPhone. In order to sign up you will need an iPhone 15 Pro or newer for starters. Without that it’s a non-starter. You’ll also need to set your device language to the same as your Siri language. So, for example, US English for both.

If you can tick those box, the next steps are for you:

  • Head to Settings on iPhone
  • Browse to the Siri menu
  • Hit Try Siri AI (Beta)

From here you’ll be informed that you’re on the waitlist and be notified when your Apple ID is accepted. Once that’s happened, the new standalone Siri app will automatically be downloaded to your phone. This is the new chatbot-style app that’ll house all of your previous requests.

There’s no reliable information on how long this takes. My phone received the notification within a couple of hours on Monday afternoon after downloading the iOS 27. Others are reporting not seeing it heading into Tuesday.

Accessing the new Siri AI can be accessed in four ways: Either use that usual ‘Hey Siri’ command, Hold the side button or swipe down from the Dynamic Island. You can also go via the new Siri app.

From here you’ll be able to ask supported apps for information about what’s happening on screen, glean restaurant recommendations from your messages and also send that information to other apps. For example, with the Lumy app you can be viewing location in Google Maps and ask Siri to send the location to Lucy where you’ll see sunrise, sunset, golden hour times and more. For workout apps like The Outsiders, you can request workout summaries and body metrics from Siri without even entering the app.
