If you’re fed up of waiting for Apple to add a way to stream lossless and hi-res music wirelessly, a new gadget could provide a solution. The earphone specialist Acoustune has announced the ATX001 transmitter – a new USB-C dongle that brings support for the aptX Lossless and LDAC codecs to Bluetooth 5.4-compatible wireless earphones.

That’s thanks to the Qualcomm QCC5181 SoC, which supports a range of hi-res audio codecs. In tandem with the AMINA Studio companion app, users will be able to bypass the default audio processing on your existing phone. So, users will be able to plug the dongle into an iPhone or any Android phone that doesn’t currently support aptX Lossless or LDAC.

“Bluetooth transmitter ‘ATX-001’ that delivers reference-grade sound quality via USB Type-C connection now on sale. Acoustune is pleased to announce the ATX001, the brand’s first Bluetooth transmitter product. We have achieved the high-quality sound that can be called the reference standard of Acoustune, using Bluetooth audio.

“This product utilises Qualcomm’s latest chipset, the QCC5181, and supports high-quality audio codecs such as aptX™ Lossless and LDAC. You can easily enjoy the reference-grade sound quality advocated by Acoustune in the optimal environment matched to the codecs supported by your existing earphones or headphones,” the company says in a press release.

You won’t be able to use any AirPods model to wirelessly stream aptX or LDAC content with the ATX001 transmitter, but it is will be compatible with popular models like the Sony WH-1000XM6, for example. Naturally, it’s compatible with the Japanese company’s range of earphones.

The device is available top pre-order from today and will be available this week. They’ll cost 13,600Y, which is about £57 or $75.
