Apple’s upcoming foldable phone will be called the iPhone Duo, according to the latest leaks. The device will debut at an event later today at Apple’s HQ in California but will most likely not be available until October, later than the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max.
The name leak comes courtesy of well-known Apple watcher Mark Gurman from Bloomberg. We previously thought the device could be called the iPhone Ultra or even iPhone Fold. The Duo name is interesting as it won’t be the first foldable with it; Microsoft’s sadly unsuccessful Surface Duo appeared in 2019.
As previously rumored, the device will hit the $2000 mark at the entry level – no surprise there, given the cost of other foldables – and will have a shorter design than we’ve seen from many other manufacturers. You can read all of the foldable rumors in this roundup.
There are more specific pricing rumors. Gurman says the iPhone Duo will have a starting price point of $2,000 for 256 GB of storage and a top cost of $3,000, which presumably will give you 1TB of storage. The Galaxy Fold 8 clocks in at $2,099.
And there are some other leaked details too – that the iPhone Duo will come in dark blue and white and use the latest A20 Pro hardware – again not a surprise. There will also be a 12 megapixel front camera, a magnetic hinge and supprt for the Apple Pencil. Gurman has previously said that Apple was experimenting with launching a smaller pencil, but that it was no longer happening.
Yesterday, decade-long foldable maker Samsung said it had taken over billboards across the globe with a ‘Welcome to Foldables’ campaign. The smartphone maker says that pre-orders for this year’s Galaxy Z Series were 21% up on prevous years, with the Galaxy Z Fold8 accounting for almost 40% of total pre-orders. That’s significant as it uses the same-size Samsung display that will be in the iPhone Duo.
