Want to use a VPN on your iPhone? It’s a very good idea, as it helps keep your data safe from online criminals. Another benefit is being able to access streaming services from anywhere in the world, no matter where you are on the globe. Using VPNs has certainly become a lot easier over the years. The first time we used one, it involved manually fiddling with server addresses and was strictly for computers only. That may be fine for the tech heads, but it’s about as unfriendly as consumer gadgets get before you start ripping gadgets apart to get…
Today on Decoder, we’ve got the first of a two-part series on the systems that run the world: I’m talking with Bart Butler, the CTO of Proton, the company that makes private and secure productivity software. You probably know it best for Proton Mail, which is encrypted by default, but the company also has docs, sheets, a calendar, and even a new AI assistant called Lumo, all built and marketed around the idea that they should be vastly more private than the products from Big Tech companies. You’ll hear Bart say pretty plainly that the thing Proton sells, at a high level,…
Swatch and Omega have just unveiled the latest limited edition MoonSwatch, and it’s the most premium one yet. The big news, is, though, that it’ll be available to buy online (more on that later). As for the watch, and why it’s special – the dial, hands, crown and pushers are all crafted from Omega’s 18k Moonshine Gold. That’s 11 grams of gold on the watch. It gets better, though, that gold isn’t new, it’s melted down from genuine Omega spare parts dating back to 1969, the year of the actual moon landing. Only 1,69 pieces are being made. Each one…
Ninja has added everything from ice cream makers to double-decker toaster ovens to its extensive lineup of counter-clogging appliances, but it’s only now introducing its first microwave. What makes the new Ninja Crispi Microwave stand out among its many competitors is that it doubles as an air fryer. After heating your food using microwaves, you have the option to switch over to using superheated air so the results are crispy instead of soggy, while also potentially replacing two kitchen appliances with just one multitasker. It’s available starting today through SharkNinja’s online store for $449.It comes with a bunch of standard…
Google must give rival AI assistants and search engines greater access to key parts of Android and Google Search after the European Union ordered the company to comply with the bloc’s digital antitrust rules. The two decisions, handed down Thursday, could weaken Google’s control over two of the tech industry’s most important platforms and have far-reaching consequences for the company, shape the future of its AI tool Gemini, and open up new opportunities for rivals to gain ground. Google has until January 2027 to begin sharing search data and July 2027 to implement changes to Android. The rulings stem from technical regulatory…

I’ve never particularly liked the colour green. I’m not sure why. Green walls? Not for me. Green sofa? Definitely not. Green smartphone? Jog on. And yet, drop me in the middle of a forest, and I can’t get enough of the stuff. There’s something about walking beneath a canopy of trees that quietens everything down. The never-ending to-do list fades away, replaced by birdsong and rustling leaves. For a little while at least, emails, deadlines, and notifications, cease to exist. It is, perhaps, a slightly odd thing to admit when I spend most of my life writing about tech. AI…
I stood before a hulking glass and brick structure in the heart of Fort Worth, Texas. Thousands gathered inside to see what had been billed as “the future of policing in the digital age.” As press, I was prohibited from entering, but from a number of nearby locations, I met with attendees who told me what was being sold within. And I learned that AI is threatening to seize the very heart of policing in America. The promise of AI at this year’s International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Technology Conference focused on automating routine parts of the job, which…
It had been a tech world whisper for months, but now the news is finally official: OnePlus will no longer launch products in the US or Europe. After more than a decade of smartphone sales, the firm is retreating to its home market, leaving long-time partner Oppo to go it alone overseas. The news came via Oppo, which has shared R&D, software and behind-the-scenes business divisions with OnePlus since 2022. It was a “strategic decision to focus our efforts” and one apparently not dictated by the bigger firm. That makes the OnePlus 15 and OnePlus 15R the final two handsets…
Instant cameras have gone through a great shrinking since they first started appearing around 75 years ago – and they don’t get much smaller than the Polaroid Go Gen 3. Or do they? Almost small enough to fit in your gob and weighing just under 252g without any film loaded, Polaroid says the Go Gen 3 is the world’s smallest instant camera, but that’s only if you don’t include the old second-gen version, which was actually even smaller. Still, the Polaroid Go Gen 3 is hardly a chonker, so you can still take it out and about on a whim…
OnePlus has confirmed what industry observers have long expected: it’s quitting the US and European markets, and will no longer launch new products in either region. Parent company Oppo promises that it will honor existing support and warranty agreements, with devices transitioning to its ColorOS for future updates.“Software updates and after-sale support will be guaranteed” in both the US and Europe, Oppo’s senior PR manager in Europe, James Paterson, told The Verge in a call. The company wouldn’t confirm any specifics on how it will honor its warranty and support agreements in the US, where it will now have no…
I’ll admit it: camping is not something that comes naturally to me. So when I got the chance to head to Devon with my wife and three-year-old for our first proper family camping trip, I wanted to make sure we didn’t spend the night shivering, damp, or wrestling with tent poles in the dark. Luckily, I had some expert backup. These tips come from Michael Gaston, Product Trainer at Runners Need, who’s seen just about every camping mistake a beginner can make. Rather than just take his word for it, I decided to test each tip myself, using a TentBox…
