Art TVs aren’t exactly known for being affordable, which is why Woot’s latest sale is notable. Now through June 26th, the retailer is discounting Samsung’s 2025 Frame TV and Hisense’s 2025 CanvasTV. The 65-inch CanvasTV is down to $779.99 ($520 off) — its best price of the year — while Samsung’s like-minded Frame TV is on sale in multiple sizes starting at $587.99 ($312 off). If you want a bigger set, the 75-inch CanvasTV is also on sale for $1,197.99 ($1,302 off). However, note that both Hisense models come with a one-year warranty, whereas the Frame TVs only include a…
Microsoft is facing criticism for its handling of zero-day exploits. Someone going by the name Nightmare Eclipse has been publicly feuding with the company, posting proof-of-concept exploit code. Some of their posts suggest that they’re a disgruntled former employee. But what caught cyber security researcher Kevin Beaumont’s eye was how Microsoft has responded.Microsoft suggests it plans to bring a criminal case against Nightmare Eclipse for failing to follow “proper coordination” in disclosing vulnerabilities. They also disabled Nightmare Eclipse’s GitHub, GitLab, and Microsoft Security Response Center accounts disabled. As Beaumont points out, “It’s quite difficult to ‘responsibly’ report future vulnerabilities when…
I live in a part of Los Angeles where I feel safer bringing pepper spray on walks. The problem is, I don’t always remember to bring it with me, and it’s not legal to carry it everywhere I go. Pebblebee’s $59.99 Halo Bluetooth tracker surprised me by being a suitable replacement because it doubles as a siren-equipped personal safety device, and I can bring it anywhere.A quick pull of its cap triggers a bunch of safety features: Its 130dB siren will sound, its LEDs will strobe, and it will automatically alert up to five trusted contacts with text messages (Pebblebee’s…
As handheld consoles continue to grow and push the limits of what you can actually hold in your hands, the Arduboy FX-C comes in a refreshingly pocketable package. It manages to squeeze the best features of past models and some welcome upgrades into a handheld that’s still no larger or thicker than a few credit cards. It’s the best version of the Arduboy so far, particularly for gamers who want to jump into the handheld’s ever-expanding library of games and apps right out of the box, but one of its most compelling upgrades isn’t quite ready for primetime. The original Arduboy…
Aliyah, a light-skinned Black woman dressed in country-western gear, is struggling to sell metal buckles she handmade on TikTok. In a video for the social media platform from March, she cries to the camera and pleads for views: “Even as a black woman, I have more faith that white women will stay 13 seconds [on this video] to save my belt buckle business,” the onscreen text reads. She wipes a tear off her cheek. But Aliyah isn’t real, and neither are her supposedly handmade products — she’s one of many AI-generated influencers created to sell mass-produced products via dropshipping on TikTok,…
Hi, friends! Welcome to Installer No. 130, your guide to the best and Verge-iest stuff in the world. (If you’re new here, welcome, don’t forget to hydrate, and also you can read all the old editions at the Installer homepage.)This week, I’ve been reading about Victor Wembanyama and mahjong and Merlin Mann’s pearls of wisdom, watching more of the Scripps National Spelling Bee finals than I expected, watching way too many videos about lighting a home studio, spending too many hours tweaking the settings in Vivaldi, belatedly cleaning up my Google Photos library, and finally — finally — getting my…
I grew up in an age of games with pixels so chunky they made Duplo look refined. The era was bookended by the Atari 2600 and the Game Boy, with the likes of the Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, BBC Micro, Amstrad CPC, Sega Master System and NES in-between. I love them all. Even the Amstrad. But my favourite retro console these days is the Pico-8. Which is a bit strange when you consider the Pico-8 never physically existed. Instead, Pico-8 is a fantasy console – a virtual platform dreamt up by Joseph ‘zep’ White. It started out as a sandbox for a game before mutating into an entire ecosystem.…
The updated Barrington Watch Winder is the one accessory I’d recommend to all automatic watch owners
If you own an automatic watch (like one in our best watch guide), a watch winder is one of those purchases you might debate getting for years. Then you buy one and wonder why you waited so long. I’ve tested a fair few watch winders over the years, and Barrington’s single winder has long been one of my favourites, so I was very excited to test the latest model. This is how I got on… The Barrington makes a strong first impression out of the box. It looks premium on a desk or bedside table. It’s painted in a gloss…
It’s the world’s worst kept secret that Nvidia is about to announce its own Arm-powered laptop chips at Computex this weekend, and now Microsoft, Nvidia, and Arm are all openly teasing the announcement. The Windows and Nvidia GeForce accounts on X both posted “A new era of PC” earlier today, and now Arm has followed up with an identical post. All three posts include coordinates pointing to where Computex is hosted in Taipei. Nvidia is holding a Computex keynote in Taipei at 8PM PT / 11PM ET on Sunday night, where it’s rumored to be announcing its new N1 and N1x…
AI training startup Shift wants to clean your home for free. The catch — because, despite what its website says, there’s always a catch — is that it will record cleaners as they scrub, vacuum, dust, tidy, and wash, and use that footage to train robots.Shift announced the unusual offer on social media on Thursday, explaining that the value of the training data generated from the cleanings is more than enough to fund the service. As its website puts it: “You get a spotless apartment. We get training data. Everyone wins.”A promotional video shows a cleaner in a crisp white…
The Hulu streaming service may fold entirely into Disney+ judging by new reports. A Business Insider report claims the House of Mouse is working on a “multi-phased” scheme to move Hulu’s content over to the Disney+ app and then drop the Hulu app altogether. The report cites word from Disney employees, as well leaked internal documents claiming “the Hulu tech stack and app will be decommissioned after all users have transitioned.” That would make a good deal of sense, considering Disney owns both platforms and much of the content is already available within the Disney+ application for bundle subscribers. The…
Wikipedia is one of the last bastions of trust on the internet. But last week, volunteer editors and contributors were alarmed to hear that a small but important team of engineers at the nonprofit that supports it had been laid off. The layoffs didn’t just threaten to sever an important link between the Wikimedia Foundation and its community — they also raised concerns that the WMF was engaging in union-busting. After days of heated discussion, some Wikipedians are ready to support a strike. What that even looks like on a platform where creators mostly aren’t being paid is a different…
