It comes as part of Microsoft’s plan to revitalize Windows 11 with updates focused on addressing user complaints and improving performance. Microsoft patched a bunch of security issues with this update as well, which the company said we can expect to see more of in future releases as it uses AI to identify vulnerabilities.Last month, Microsoft previewed several other features arriving in this build (KB5101650) in an optional June update. That includes a new “Point-in-time restore” option, which can restore your PC, along with your apps, settings, and files, to a previous state. The update also adds some customization options…
Plex services experienced some major issues on Tuesday, with multiple users reporting problems on Plex’s forums and on Reddit. Many people use Plex as a way to stream shows and movies they host locally, but users are upset because today’s problems were reportedly affecting their ability to do that.“Basically all Plex is down unless you can play locally over LAN and even that takes ages and doesn’t always work,” said one user. Others reported problems with matching content on their servers. For me, the Plex TV website was loading slowly, though while initially writing this story, it started to load…
Samsung has teased its next-generation Galaxy Watch smartwatches – due to be unveiled at next week’s Unpacked event – will carry an intense focus on AI-informed health and wellness. The company is expected to launch the Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 at the London event on July 22, and now Samsung has given us an idea of what to expect when it comes to health and wellness tracking. The improvements will be powered by new software innovations as well as “all new internal components” and better battery life. In a Samsung Mobile Press blog post on Tuesday,…
SpaceXAI’s Grok Build AI coding tool was spotted uploading users’ entire codebases to Google Cloud before it was reported, and the company turned it off. The Register reports that Cereblab published findings on Monday showing how the Grok Build CLI was packaging and uploading entire code repositories, “including files it was told not to open and secrets deleted from history,” significantly more data retention than similar tools like Claude Code. The researchers say that as of Monday, their tests show SpaceXAI’s servers returning a “disable_codebase_upload: true” flag, and the codebase upload “no longer fires.”Elon Musk responded to the incident in a…
The European Union has today added smartwatches and fitness trackers to a host of device categories exempt from new rules on easily replaceable batteries. It’s both a common sense move and one that denies owners of devices like the Apple Watch, for instance, the ability to pop in a new battery without seeking outside help. The EU’s rationale – and one likely argued by the manufacturers themselves – is that the safety, durability and water resistance could be compromised by users fiddling around with the enclosures and internals. In the case of smart watches and fitness trackers they’re designed to…
Although most of Prime Day’s unusually good Philips Hue deals have ended, a few remain, and some, including the black Philips Hue Twilight Sleep and Wake-Up Light, are even cheaper. None, however, have fallen to a new all-time low price like Philips Hue’s Essential starter kit. Right now, you can buy a bundle containing four white and color E26 bulbs and a Hue Bridge for $79.99 ($40 off) at Amazon. Since that’s the same price as the two-bulb Essential starter kit, it’s like getting two bulbs for free. Each of the color-changing bulbs can display millions of colors or tunable white…
While attempts have already been made to expedite and automate deliveries using wheeled robots or aerial drones, humans are still the most efficient way to navigate obstacles like stairs or cluttered pathways in order to get packages from a truck to a doorstep. A demo video shows a driver unloading packages onto Spot for doorstep distribution that Boston Dynamics hopes will be efficient enough to justify buying one of the $75k~ bots.Boston Dynamics says it’s “already in talks with major logistics companies about testing Spot for a last-mile delivery solution” and its current goal is to move from these demos…
Samsung is reportedly planning to halt one of the best smartphone pre-order bonuses in tech, and it’s all down to the RAM and storage crisis engulfing manufacturers and consumers’ buying power. In the last few years, Samsung has offered owners a ‘double storage’ promotion when they pre-order phones. So, users have been able to get a 512GB phone at no extra cost when pre-ordering the 256GB model. Or, a 1TB phone when ordering the 512GB model. However, given the current cost of storage for manufacturers and how much doubling the built-in SSD would cost Samsung, the promotion will change with…
When I first told you about the “OLED Xbox Ally X of my dreams,” I had to curb my enthusiasm a bit. That’s partly because I hadn’t yet tried the handheld myself, and partly because Asus was only planning to sell it bundled with a pair of expensive AR glasses! I’m happy to say both things are no longer true.Asus will sell a standalone version of the OLED Ally as well, spokesperson Anthony Spence confirms to The Verge. “We are actively discussing the release schedule for a standalone version of the new Ally. Please stay tuned for upcoming announcements.”And after…
X’s head of product, Nikita Bier, admitted in a post on Monday that X’s algorithm was “missing” data about surfacing posts from people who you’ve followed back. Now, he says a tweak will “boost visibility of your posts to your mutuals,” hopefully enhancing the sense of community instead of highlighting and spreading random arguments, but didn’t explain how the data went missing in the first place.Last week, Bier also said users who post original content will “climb faster,” after admitting that top accounts on the platform have been posting “stolen” recycled content from other users, and now this tweak might…
OpenAI has spent the better part of the year involved in lawsuit after lawsuit, including one from the world’s richest man. But last Friday, the company was hit with one of the highest-profile legal actions yet — from Apple. OpenAI’s expensive hardware bet is what’s on the line.Apple’s lawsuit against OpenAI, filed in Northern California federal court, accused former Apple employees of “stealing Apple’s trade secrets for the benefit of OpenAI.” The 41-page complaint states that Apple keeps its “product development, manufacturing, supply chain, technology research, and other innovations confidential” and that “the trade secrets spanning Apple’s hardware operations collectively…
Reflect Orbital has been given the green light to launch its first space mirror that aims to redirect sunlight down to Earth at night. The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has authorized the California-based startup to build and operate a single prototype satellite in low-Earth orbit later this year, despite concerns over how the technology could impact optical astronomy. The satellite, named Eärendil-1 in reference to a Tolkien character, will attempt to redirect sunlight to specific areas on Earth after dark using a 59-foot (18-meter) reflective surface. If successful, Reflect Orbital plans to launch and operate a constellation of 50,000 satellites…
