If you’ve been waiting to try Apple’s brand-new, AI-infused Siri, you’re now able to. There’s a caveat though – and that is you need to install the public beta version of iOS 27 for your iPhone, iPadOS 27 for your iPad or macOS 27 Golden Gate for your Mac, thanks to the Apple Beta Software Program. We strongly recommend you don’t install any kind of pre-release (beta) software on an iPhone or iPad you use every day and especially not if it’s something you rely on. Remember to always back up your data first. In other words, use a spare…
Noise-canceling earbuds are great for flights and focusing, but they’re not always ideal for outdoor workouts. The last-gen Shokz OpenRun Pro’s open-ear design lets you enjoy music while staying aware of approaching cars, cyclists, and other potential hazards, and right now they’re on sale for $109 ($50 off) at Amazon, Walmart, and B&H Photo. That matches their all-time low price, which we haven’t seen since January.Unlike traditional earbuds, the OpenRun Pro rests just outside your ears and uses bone conduction to deliver sound. That means you can listen to music or podcasts while still hearing what’s going on around you,…
Nintendo is reportedly mulling an OLED version of its Nintendo Switch 2 games console, which may give some gamers pause before snapping up the current iteration of the second generation hybrid machine. Nintendo launched an OLED version of the original Switch four years after its 2017 release date, and the groundwork is apparently being made to follow a similar pathway second time around, with a possible release likely to follow in late 2027 or early 2028. That’d be between two and three years after the release of the LCD version. According to a report from ZDNet in Korea, Nintendo could…
OnePlus will officially leave the European and US smartphone markets this week, according to a new report, as the parent company looks to consolidate its assets. WinFuture reports that an announcement will be made in “the coming days” regarding the future of a brand that crashed the mobile scene as a Flagship Killer in 2014, offing high-end specs at much lower prices. OnePlus has already begun guiding consumers to sister brand Oppo while stocks of devices in Europe almost extinguished, while a report last week also suggested the former’s OxygenOS user interface is being phased out in favour of Oppo’s…
Apple is reportedly planning to refresh its Apple Pencil accessory for iPad and Vision Pro, potentially with user repairability at the forefront of considerations. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that the company will debut two new models with new repairability options. That’s likely to infer the batteries will be user-replaceable in the next generation of hardware. To date, Apple Pencil models have been charged via USB or wireless by magnetically attaching to a companion iPad. There have been no reports of widespread issues with battery degradation over the years. In cases where the charging capacity is diminished the whole thing must…
When Apple employees interviewed for jobs at OpenAI, the AI startup’s hardware head allegedly asked them to show up with something unusual: components they were working on and unreleased product samples. That’s according to a blockbuster lawsuit filed by Apple, which accuses OpenAI of stealing confidential documents, spying on hardware prototypes, and tricking one of its trusted partners into performing a proprietary product design technique. The lawsuit primarily revolves around the alleged actions of three people:Tang Tan, a 24-year Apple veteran who recently served as the vice president of the Apple Watch. In 2024, Tan left to work on Jony Ive’s…
Apple revealed the next major iPad software update back in June at its developer conference. iPadOS 27 won’t roll out until September, although it is now available as a beta release. It will work best with the latest iPads as you’d expect, but you’ll want to know if iOS 27 will work with your existing Apple tablet, which might be slightly older. We’ve got all the details right here. As always, a whole bunch of older iPads will also get the free software update, stretching back around five years – the 9th gen iPad that’s on the list will get the…
The latest Mac software update is coming later in the year – macOS 27. Don’t worry, there’s still a California-based moniker alongside the number: Golden Gate. Yes, the bridge of course. After months of beta versions, the biggest free Mac update in years is now rolling out to the public. A whole bunch of older Mac desktops and MacBooks will also get the free software update, stretching back a good few years. But will your current Mac laptop or desktop get the new update? Here’s our guide to the macOS 27 system requirements. Note that Apple’s software versions are now…
Today, I’m talking with Xinzhou Wu, who is the head of automotive at Nvidia.Nvidia is obviously in the news constantly because of the AI boom — it’s one of the most valuable companies in the world, because the AI industry can’t get enough of the company’s GPUs.But Nvidia is also a key supplier to the auto industry. It’s had chips in cars for years now, and Xinzhou has been instrumental in building a complete autonomous driving system that automakers can just use. It’s already in newer Mercedes EVs, for example, as you’ll hear him mention several times. So I really wanted…
Waze is getting an AI makeover. Google is integrating its flagship AI assistant, Gemini, into the driving app with the goal of letting users personalize their trips a little more.Of the four new updates, only two are being described as involving Gemini. Waze says its updating its conversation reporting feature, first introduced in 2024, to allow drivers to use conversational voice commands to report traffic incidents and suggest map updates, like a road closure or outdated house number. In addition, Waze introduced Destination Search, enabling drivers to use (again) use conversation voice commands (e.g., “Find me a coffee shop that’s…
Nearly three years ago, I showed you an awesome $8 cable tester that quickly tells you if your USB-C cable is likely fast, slow, powerful, or weak. Sadly, that gadget got discontinued, and I’ve never found anything as intuitive or inexpensive since. But if you’ve got a Mac with Apple Silicon chips, you can simply download an even more impressive tester for free. It’s called WhatCable, and it works by reading the data your Mac already collects about attached USB devices, data that Apple doesn’t normally pass along to you. Just click a little widget that lives in the menu bar…
The European Union is weighing sweeping new restrictions on children’s and teenagers’ access to social media, including age limits, an outright ban, and phased access. Social media platforms could also be forced to prove their services are not harmful before young people are allowed to use them.European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the bloc’s executive arm could propose new legislation within months, after reviewing recommendations from a panel of experts released today. “This is not about whether children can access social media. It is about when social media can access our children,” von der Leyen said. The panel recommended…
